Who works for COPE?
COPE works in partnership with the rehabilitation centre staff to improve rehabilitation services throughout Laos. It's a big job! We have trained 14 staff in Cambodia at the Cambodian School for Prosthetics and Orthotics. They are now working throughout Laos as PO's (Prosthetist/Orthotist).
COPE works with 130 staff throughout Laos - As well as the P&O's this includes local administrators, surgeons, therapists and technicians. Here are some photo's of our hard working team! They are our most precious resource and we regularly carry out mentoring, training events and team building to involve them in all the development activities.

Some of COPE's employees in Laos.

Ruth Baker.
Once the P&O staff return from Cambodia to work we have a UK trained PO mentor - Ruth Baker - who works with them and the other mentors continuing to train them and hand over management, clinical and other necessary skills that they will need.

Jo Pereira working with a young burns patient.
We are also working with the physiotherapy team in all 5 centres to develop rehabilitation skills. For this we have a UK trained Occupational Therapist - Jo Pereira - and a Dutch trained Physiotherapist - Max Chevalier. This will ensure that the devices we provide are used properly and are part of a whole package of care to enhance independence and maximise peoples potential.
The only other ex-pat working with COPE is Mike Boddington who started COPE way back in 1997 and still has to go and find the money to keep us running!
